Could I finance the project over several years with around 20% of the equipment price as my own contribution?
Treat 20% as an application scenario, not a guaranteed financing condition.
The buyer can state a preferred own contribution when requesting financing. The financing provider may accept it, require more equity, offer a different amount, or request additional security after reviewing the project and borrower.

Why lenders care about buyer contribution
An equity contribution reduces the financed amount and shows the buyer is committing capital to the project. The required percentage varies by deal.
The equipment price is not the whole project
Site works, customs, local tax, inland transport, installation and working capital may not all be eligible for the same financing. Buyers should separate equipment cost from total project cost.
Build more than one scenario
It is useful to compare 20%, 30% and other contribution levels because the approved amount, repayment burden or pricing may change.
Keep a cash buffer
Do not use all available cash as the down payment if that leaves insufficient working capital for opening, staffing, marketing or seasonal operating costs.
